To Whom it May Concern,
I'm a 48-year-old single
mother of three on Social
Securty disability for 14 years.
During this time we have
struggled to get by but I think I
have done a good job. I have
three very beautiful children
who do well in school and are a
joy to be around.
My oldest just turned 19 and
went off to college. Because of
this I have lost my disability for
him and yet I still support him.
Making rent has been a struggle
but I have been able to barely
maintain.
This year has been hard. I
had my heat shut off in the
spring and I kept saying "I'll
take care of it". I never caught
up so they won't turn it back on..
But we will survive on space
heaters. So far so good.
I'm writing because I need
help with Christmas. I'm not
looking for IPods or Xboxs, just
some p.j.'s, underwear, clothes
or stocking stuffers.
My problem has been
amplified this year because my
best friend has invited us to
spend Christmas at her mothers
house the last three years. She
comes from a large family. We
love going there because of all
the family and friends they invite
but they have traditions we now
have become part of. Because
there is four in my family myself,
my 19 year old son, my 17 year
old son and my 13 year old
daughter) we had to pick four
names along with four stockings
to fill. Two adults and two
children. I have no family left.
My father passed in 1992 and
my mother was killed in a car
accident in 1993. Having my
girlfriends family "adopt" us has
been wonderful but this year I
just can't do it alone. All gifts
are under 20.00 but that's 80.00
right there and when I lost my
disability for my oldest son I just
can't see a way out of this and
time is running out. Please,
please help me. And if you can't
help, can you point me in the
direction I can get assistance.
I have COPD and a lot of
trouble breathing. My
medications cost. I'm just
scared. My children Spencer 19,
Andy 17 and Gracie 13 are
wonderful. They know of how
hard it has been and have
NEVER asked for anything. My
19-year old son for his birthday
last month asked for a video.
They are wonderful. I always
tell them that they will always
get "my undying love and
affection".
Without lay-a-way I have
really struggled. And now
Christmas is just around the
corner and I'm lost. Please, if
you can assist me in any way.
The charities around here do not
assist when the children are over
16-years-old. I go to the food
bank here and the cut off is 16
years old. This time of year is
also hard because my oldest
sons birthday is in October,
Andy's birthday is in
Novemeber, I have Christmas in
December and Gracies birthday
in January. Then in February
comes all the fees associated
with their sports they play.
Please, I don't know what else
to do.
